How to Use the Spam Detection Tool

Use the Spam Detection tool to analyze your email copy and predict its likelihood of being classified as spam by filtering systems. It highlights words that contribute positively or negatively to the spam score.

How to Use the Spam Checker

  1. Navigate to the Tool: Go to the Spam Detection page.
  2. Enter Email Text: Copy the text content of the email you want to analyze (including the subject line and body) and paste it into the large text area labeled "Enter Email Text".
  3. Check Spam: Click the button. The page will reload to display the analysis results.

Understanding the Results

After clicking "Check Spam", the page reloads showing the analysis:
  • Overall Result Header:
    • Displays the primary classification: Spam or Not Spam (Header background will also be red or green).
    • Shows the **Confidence** percentage (e.g., 99.25%) indicating the model's certainty in its classification.
  • Highlighted Text Section:
    • Shows your original email text.
    • Words identified as strongly indicating spam are highlighted in red.
    • Words identified as strongly indicating legitimacy are highlighted in green.
    • A color key is provided below the text.
  • Word Importance Analysis Section:
    • **Plot Image:** A visual chart showing the relative importance of different words (features) in the spam prediction model.
    • **Top Contributing Words Table:** Lists the specific words that had the most significant impact (positive or negative) on the spam score. Positive scores generally contribute towards a spam classification, while negative scores contribute towards a legitimate classification (verify this based on your model's output convention).
  • Probability Breakdown Card:**
    • Shows the specific probabilities calculated by the model for both "Spam" and "Not Spam".
    • Includes a visual bar with a marker indicating the calculated Spam Probability percentage.
  • Static Tips Card:**
    • Provides a general list of best practices (like using personalized greetings, avoiding excessive punctuation/caps, providing clear value) to help emails avoid spam filters. This card is always displayed.
  • Check Another Email Button:** Click this button to return to the input form and analyze new text.

Tips for Using the Results

  • Focus on removing or rephrasing words highlighted in red or listed with high positive importance scores, as these are likely triggers.
  • Ensure your emails contain enough positive indicators (highlighted green or with strong negative importance scores) like personalization and clear value propositions.
  • Use this tool during email drafting to pre-check copy before sending campaigns.
  • Remember that this tool analyzes text content only. Actual email deliverability also depends heavily on sender reputation, sending infrastructure (IP address, domain authentication), list quality, recipient engagement, and specific receiving server filters. This tool is a helpful guide for content optimization but not a guarantee of inbox placement.
